MakeMyTrip’s new campaign spotlights India’s hidden gems

With most international borders still closed to tourists over the COVID-19 pandemic, Indian travellers have begun looking for new experiences within the country instead. Make My Trip is capitalising on this pent up demand for travel by urging Indians to rediscover the many gems in their own backyard. The travel portal has collaborated with 22 Instagram influencers for its #MyIndia campaign, each of whom will take audiences on a virtual tour through lesser-known destinations across the country via photos, videos and reels. 

Each post gives you a bite-sized lowdown on the experiences and stay options on offer at the featured destinations; just enough to pique your interest. Up north, Abhinav Chandel takes you on a trek past apple blossoms to the century-old Mukhba village at Harsil valley, the Kalp Kedar temple, and the pristine, pine tree-fringed Dharali and Nachiketa lakes in Uttarakhand. In the west, Abhinav Malhotra gives you a bird’s eye view of the Diu fort, and explores the orange-brown stone formations of the Naida Caves, and the historic battleship, the INS Khukri, which was sunk during the 1971 Indo-Pakistan war.

Mohnish Doultani goes beyond Shillong to explore the Laitlum canyons, Krang Suri waterfalls, Kongthong village and Shnongpdeng village (known for its clear blue waters) in Meghalaya. Photographer Sunny Gala takes armchair travellers on a quick journey through Tamil Nadu, including locations such as Yanaimalai in Madurai, known for its Jain scriptures and Shaivite temple, and the abandoned town of Dhanushkodi, which according to Indian mythology is said to be where Ram built the Ram Setu bridge to Lanka. Food blogger Shivesh Bhatia shows you what should make it to your itinerary when you visit Pondicherry, and former VJ Shenaz Treasury frolics about beautiful beaches in the Andamans.

MakeMyTrip has also included handy information about each destination as well as potential itineraries for visitors on its app. The travel portal has also announced a contest as part of the #MyIndia campaign to encourage further audience engagement. Participants can send in their own photos and videos showcasing a hidden gem in India that they have visited. Winners will receive travel vouchers of upto Rs 3 lakhs.
